Snowy Owl

In the 1980s, a very dedicated school teacher by the name of Niel Fairgieve coached a volleyball team to win several championships. The players identified the Snowy Owl as their logo, and drew this stylish image on their shirts. 

Since that time, the Snowy Owl has been the mascot of many Gjoa Haven teams (hockey, volleyball, and more) If you visit our community, you will find people of all ages at the gym playing pick-up volley-ball at a very high level. 

This is a volleyball town (and of course, a hockey town)!

Gjoa Haven residents are proud snowy owls.
