Clean Energy Program
Gjoa Haven, like many northern communities, is working towards sustainable energy solutions to tackle the challenges of remote living and reduce its reliance on diesel fuel. This effort is part of broader initiatives across Nunavut and the Canadian North to adopt cleaner energy alternatives.
Key initiatives include the installation of solar panels on public buildings, such as the arena, to capture summer sunlight and lower both energy costs and emissions. The community is also enhancing energy efficiency through building upgrades, better insulation, and more energy-efficient heating systems.
Additionally, local programs are focused on educating residents about energy conservation and the benefits of clean energy. These efforts contribute to a larger movement in the North to develop independent, sustainable energy solutions for remote communities.
