With a population of approximately 1,500 people, primarily Inuit, Gjoa Haven's main language is Inuktitut. Despite its remote location, this culturally significant community plays a vital role in preserving Inuit traditions and has a resilient population dedicated to maintaining its heritage.

Established in the early 1900s, Gjoa Haven holds historical importance as the site where explorer Roald Amundsen spent two winters during his Northwest Passage expedition. This legacy of exploration continues to influence the community’s resilient spirit today.
